Life in the UK test questions for the British citizenship test

If you are applying for naturalisation as a British citizen or for indefinite leave to remain you will need to show that you know about life in the UK.

Life UK

To do this you must take the Life in the UK test (though there are a few exceptions). It is a short computer-based test of 24 questions. You are allowed up to 45 minutes but most people complete it within half an hour. However one third of the people who have taken the Life in the UK test FAILED it first time - and had to wait a month or more and pay for a re-sit.

Practice tests

This site helps you to prepare for the Life in the UK Test that is now required for settlement in the UK or British citizenship.

There is no official practice test material. So now, basing our test on the real test questions, NewUKtest has prepared a set of 500 practice questions - focused on the right chapters of the new book and completely aligned to the new test.

You can register for 30 days and take an infinite number of different tests. Each test is weighted exactly as the real test, with a set number of questions from chapters 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the new book. It is also weighted so that the four question types - multiple choice, multiple match, binary and true/false - are in the same proportions as in the real test.

NewUKtest offers you the best chance of passing the real test first time.

British exam

The British exam, as the Life in the UK test is often known, is the main route to 'life UK' and Britishness. The British government publication 'Life in the United Kingdom' was prepared to cover the history of immigration to the UK, employment, finance, education, health and law and is a good British test in itself as well as a guide to Britishness, life in the United Kingdom generally, or simply UK life. With practice tests, preparation for the British exam becomes much more simple. Once you have read the 'Life in the United Kingdom' book, and studied chapters 2-6 in depth, your test preparation is complete. Take a practice test, see if you pass the citizenship test, and if not study the answers you got wrong. The citizenship test will get easier and easier the more practice tests you take.
