ABOUT US

NewUKtest is provided and run by trained teachers who have long experience of preparing people from outside the UK for living in the UK and taking all the relevant examinations.

We are supported by e-learning and e-assessment specialists with strong technical and educational skills and are proud of our record in helping our members achieve success.

As well as expertise in citizenship questions, we also have expertise in teaching ESOL - teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - and therefore can help with the language of the Life in the United Kingdom book and the test, being very familiar with the contents of both and how do explain the meanings of words and of cultural concepts.

The leading educationists who developed the site are Robert Leach and Gomathi Panchapagesan. Both are UK-based English teachers who have spent their careers helping migrants to the UK learn English and learn about life in the UK. Robert wrote a book in 1979, Coping with the System, which was the original of the current Life in the United Kingdombook for the Life in the UK test. Like Life in the United Kingdom, Robert’s book explained the education, employment, health, political, finance and legal systems of the UK in simple English and explained how to gain access to services and exercise civic responsibilities. Recently Robert worked as a member of the team writing the actual questions for the Life in the UK test, which gives him unique insight into the testing process. Of course none of the questions in our NewUKtest practice tests are exactly the same as those in the real test, as this would be cheating, but they are authentic and so similar that a sustained success in our practice tests gives you the best possible probability of passing the real test.

Gomathi, like Robert, taught and organised English classes for migrants to the UK for many years, then joined an IT software Company as a Director in the year 2000. She has implemented e-learning projects and has worked as a consultant in the education sector. She is a trustee for two refugee organisations based in London and Surrey. She and Robert are also active members of the National Association for Teaching English and other Community Languages to Adults, NATECLA.
